The Secret To Building A Strong Foundation
What Every Christian Needs To Know About Faith
No matter what church you go to or what denomination you belong to, there seem to be two things we all
have in common. The first is that we all believe in Christ and the second being that we all want to have a
closer relationship with Him. Sadly those two things aren’t enough to put us all on the same page.
Putting our differences aside, there should be one thing that we all as Christians seek to achieve, and that is
building a stronger foundation to our Christian faith. In Luke 6:47-49 Jesus said, whoever hears His words is
like a man with a strong foundation that is able to withstand the worst of floods, no matter how rough it gets.
On the other hand, whoever doesn’t hear His words are like the man that built his house on a weak
foundation, and it was destroyed as soon as the flood came.
Jesus wasn’t talking about a whole bunch of water, although the same analogy would ring true. He was
talking about our faith in times of tribulation. Jesus is that strong foundation upon which we build our faith.
Without complete faith that He is who He claims to be and that He lived, died, and rose again, we are
building our faith on a weak foundation. It’s perfectly natural to have questions and there is nothing wrong
with asking questions about your faith. When you get the answers, it will only help to strengthen your faith.
According to Proverbs 25:2, God considers it His glory to conceal things and an honor for us to search them
out. If you’re not sure about something in the Bible, start asking questions. Someone does indeed have the
answers if you ask the right questions, and that’s all part of building a strong foundation.
When I first started studying the Bible I remember questions that would come up in school that I didn’t yet
have the answers to. I had faith that the answers were there but I didn’t know enough to provide anyone with
the correct answers. My foundation was on its way to being firm, but not quite there yet. So what do you do
when you come across those tough questions that challenge your faith? You seek until you find (Luke 11:9).
God is not the author of confusion so He will help you find clarity when you genuinely seek the answers.
For some of us faith is hard to have because we can’t see it, touch it, taste it, smell it, or feel it. Faith is a
spiritual sense and therefore not made of anything earthly (Hebrews 11:1). Faith is important because faith
leads to righteousness and righteousness leads to salvation. Also, without faith it is impossible to please
Him, so our foundation is very important to our Christian walk (2 Corinthians 5:7). Why exactly is our faith so
important?
· -Faith has the power to heal (Matthew 9:22)
· -Faith allows you to perform miracles (Acts 6:8)
· -Faith has the power to purify (Acts 15:9)
· -Faith has the power to sanctify (Acts 26:18)
· -Faith reveals God’s righteousness (Romans 1:17)
· -Faith has the power to justify (Romans 3:28)
· -Faith establishes the law (Romans 3:31)
· -Faith is counted to us for righteousness (Romans 4:5)
· -Faith accesses God’s grace (Romans 5:2)
· -Faith allows us to prophesy (Romans 12:6)
· -Faith guides our walk (2 Corinthians 5:7)
· -Faith leads to blessing (Galatians 3:9)
· -Faith allows us to receive promises of the Spirit (Galatians 3:14)
· -Faith makes us children of God (Galatians 3:26)
· -Faith leads to salvation (Ephesians 2:8)
· -Faith allows Christ to dwell in our hearts (Ephesians 3:17)
· -Faith is our shield (Ephesians 6:16)
· -Faith is our breast plate (1 Thessalonians 5:8)
· -Faith helps us to overcome (1 John 5:4)
As you continue on your Christian walk be sure to reinforce your foundation as often as you can by asking
whatever questions you need to ask in order to make your foundation firm. Always remember the words of
Peter:
“That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire,
might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:” – 1 Peter 1:7 (KJV)
