Focus on Faith
Embrace Our Great God
by Dr. Greg Faulls

The Bible reveals God as personal.  Some think of God as a force.  But God is no mere force.  He is not
simply a spiritual influence.  How could either a force or influence love?  And yet the scriptures display God’
s active love.  “For God so loved the world.” (Jn. 3:16)  “God has poured out his love into our hearts by the
Holy Spirit, whom he has given us.” (Ro. 5:5)  “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this:  while we
were still sinners, Christ died for us.” (Ro. 5:8)

God is not the “cosmic flux.”  God is not “social consciousness.”  God is not the soul of the universe.  God
is not nature itself.  Our God is the living, thinking, personal being who intentionally created us and who
loves us with a passion too mighty, too earth shaking, too all consuming for us to ever fully comprehend.

Our God, whom we are to embrace, is the eternal, absolute, limitless, sovereign, independent, holy, just,
loving, merciful, good, omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent, self-existent source of all life.  He is the
Creator behind all creation, the supreme fact of all history, and the architect of salvation history.

And His ultimate concern is of the perishing condition of sinful humanity.  So concerned is He that He sent
His Son, His one and only Son, His sinless, perfect Son, to die on a cross to pay for your sin, to redeem
you and give you relational access to His loving heart.  And O’ what a Savior His Son, Jesus Christ, is for
us.

For Jesus is the centerpiece of our hope.  Jesus is the pre-existent, virgin born, Son of Man, Son of God,
miracle worker, and light of the world.  Jesus, God incarnate, God in the flesh dwelling among us.  He has
entered into our humanity and heard our despairing cry.

While we were still in our sin, Christ bleed and died that you might know the mercy of forgiveness, the
cleansing of atonement, the redemption of God, the salvation of your soul, and another chance at life
itself.  Our God has revealed Himself as God the Father, God the Son, and as God the Holy Spirit.

It is His Spirit that comes to indwell our hearts that teaches us the great truths of the Lord, who convicts the
world of sin and empowers our mission to bring the gospel to a lost and dieing world.

Let us personally embrace this God with all our hearts, with all our minds, with all our souls, and with all our
strength.  Let us embrace Him.  Let Him embrace us.  And let Him take us into the future, the temporal and
the eternal future, He has for us.  Embrace Him today.
