On January 22, 1973, the
Supreme Court made a historic
decision overturning a Texas
interpretation of abortion law
making abortion legal in the United
States.  Since that decision, it is
estimated that over 40 million
babies have been aborted.
On a frigid day in January 2009,
over 60 people met at the
Owensboro courthouse to
remember the date of this
decision.  The sounds of
“Amazing Grace” echoed
throughout the courthouse
hallways as those in attendance
Courthouse Commemoration
sang and prayed for those
affected by this decision.
Ed Hoskins, President of Right to
Life of Owensboro urged people
to continue to support the sanctity
of life and
Dana Goodlett, director
of Right to Life of Owensboro
spoke briefly on current
legislation that will also affect
unborn children, specifically the
Freedom of Choice Act.  This act
will virtually eliminate any
restrictions that are now in place
for women to abort their babies.
Goodlett requested prayers for
President Barack Obama who has
assured the pro-choice movement
he would sign this bill into law.
Mark Lord, district director for
U.S. Rep. Brett Guthrie, updated
the group on several pieces of
legislation related to abortion and
assured the group that Guthrie
opposes and would vote against
the Freedom of Choice Act.
